our heritage

As a luxury motorhome manufacturer, we specialise in van conversions using bases from luxury campervan companies such as IVECO, VW and Fiat. Our van conversions are crafted by a single craftsman who utilises decades-worth of industry knowledge to design and construct our very own range of luxury motorhomes.

We are no ordinary van conversion manufacturer – our production process enables each owner to embed their own personality and individuality within their motorhome, ensuring we can deliver a quality campervan to each and every customer.

From humble beginnings...

Starting off in 1992, IH Motorhomes has always been the vision of one man, and now, for over three decades, IH has been the name synonymous with prestige and passion in motorhome design.

From cabinet and pattern maker to British camper manufacturer

As a cabinet and pattern marker by trade, Ian Hartley turned his hand to camper manufacturing in 1992. With his first conversion done, he took it to the motorhome show at York Racecourse. Not as an ‘official’ exhibitor, he just parked in the car park with a ‘For Sale’ sign. This drew the attention of a few people who loved the build quality. Before long, the show organisers heard about it and Ian was asked to exhibit at the shows. He soon sold the van, and the vast positive comments from passers-by made him think that maybe there was something to be had as a British camper manufacturer. Before you knew it, IH Motorhomes had established themselves as a competitive British motorhome company.

Introducing the fixed rear panel

13 years after the first IH Motorhome was sold, IH introduced the fixed rear panel van in 2003. The purpose of this development was to provide a more luxurious, cosy and spacious interior coupled with a useable boot, a welcomed development that is still a favourite today with smaller panel van conversions.

A settling location

Starting out its camper manufacturing journey at a small lock up in Castleford, IH Motorhomes has developed and grown over the years, undertaking a number of site moves to keep up with the ever growing demand for IH Motorhomes.

Finally, in 2005 IH Motorhomes moved to its current location in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, with a dedicated consultation area, NCC Approved Workshop and welcoming environment for all. Now an established British motorhome company, IH Motorhomes are one of the most renowned van conversion dealers in the country.

N-Class innovation

In 2013 IH Motorhomes saw a turning point in camper manufacturing when it introduced the brand-new concept of N-Class motorhomes with a side entrance module, replacing the traditional van sliding door with a traditional ‘motorhome style’ door, and the incorporation of the IH famous rear panel into these compact panel van conversions.

Never resting on its laurels, IH Motorhomes introduced the 680 RD in February 2018, built on the new VW Crafter. Proving popular at its first ever appearance, the popularity of VW Crafter base built panel van conversions has only grown over the following years. IH Motorhomes are one of the few van conversion dealers that continue to shape the industry.

IH motorhomes today

Many years on from the very first IH Motorhomes, an unprecedented number of these van conversions have been sold and a multitude of accolades have been won, firmly establishing IH Motorhomes within the UK and Europe as a top British Motorhome company. Each year IH Motorhomes continues to build on innovation design techniques and impeccable standards.

IH Motorhomes is now one of the most luxurious van conversion dealers in the UK, delivering the highest standards of British motorhomes to the market.
